Mounted combat is a skill that increases your chances to hit and damage and lets you perform abilities while mounted that you normally cannot, such as charge.

#Steps

Mounted combat is a found skill acquired by completing a quest chain for Darian Ironhoof in Nordmaar.

Go to Darian Ironhoof
say training
He sends you to Khorin Stonehand, who is sw of your current location
say saddle
Khorin sends you to kill a prowling panther from The Great Moors and loot its pelt
Go south, find a prowling panther in The Great Moors, kill it, and loot a sleek panther hide from it
Return to Khorin Stonehand in Nordmaar, and he will take the hide from you
Khorin creates a saddle, gives it to you, and sends you back to Darian Ironhoof
Darian examines the saddle, returns it to you, and sends you back to The Great Moors to break and tame a wild pony then bring it back to him
Find a shaggy pony in The Great Moor and saddle it
You have to succeed at 10 quick time events where you react to randomized events that the pony puts you through while you break it
React by lean left, lean right, stirrup post, and cling tight based on what the pony is trying to do
After 10 successful commands, the pony will give up and let you lead it back to Nordmaar
Take the pony to Khan Khargan Swiftwind, who will offer to teach you how to use it
say learn
Khargan will give you the mounted combat skill

I struggled a lot responding quickly enough to the QTE prompts, so I made this series of triggers to succeed:

The pony leaps toward into a pool of stagnant swamp water!	stirrup post
The pony lowers its head and darts suddenly toward a low-hanging branch, attempting to knock you off!	cling tight
The pony plunges into a rough patch of overgrown swamp and the vines whip across your face!	stirrup post
The pony suddenly rears up, attempting to throw you!	cling tight
The pony swerves sharply towards a tree on the left, trying to scrape you against the rough bark!	lean right
The pony swerves sharply towards a tree on the right, trying to scrape you against the rough bark!	lean left
